Njaaninnu Kireedam kandu...USile first day first show.....
Overall a good attempt considering the crop of movies Ajith has acted in recently. Read somewhere that this is just a loose adaptation of the malayalam classic, but 80% it is the same frame to frame. Similar sequences, similar dialogues.....the only differences were- 5 songs, more comedy in 1st half, costumes.
Ajith has performed well, within his limitations. Raj Kiran was good. Vivek was hilarious. Trisha was OK (as usual abhinayikkaan ariyilla)
The good-
Did not deviate from the strong original story.
Ajith did to his level best whatever he could do.
Good supporting cast. Raj Kiran, Saranya etc were perfect.
Superb songs and their picturisation.
Absolutely no masala...a clean family movie.
Vivek's #s (can also be termed as -ve, since the storyline did not want it, but to keep tamil audience happy there was no other go)
Pretty decent direction from the debutant Vijay.
The minuses-
Villain was a big letdown...neither was he menacing, nor did he have much screen time. Keerikkadan, Johny's character were greatly missed.
Fights were not realistic. Usual tamil action. If you closely watch the original you would see that during the first encounter with keerikkaadan, sethumadhavan doesn't really hit the him wantingly or like a hero does...its pure instinctive reflex. Ariyathe adichu pokukayaanu. Here you wont find it that realistic.
Made the movie too melodramatic. Too much of emotions. This is where the greatness of our actors stand out. The way lalettan and thilakan underplayed the emotions and came up with subtle acting performance, that deserves a big salute. Ajith looked like he would cry any moment during the emotional scenes. Especially in the climax, there is this loud cry after he drops the weapon down....it was outright funny.
Talking about the climax, it surely lacked the intensity the original had.For tamil audience this climax may be something great, not for us who have witnessed those mesmerising 10 minutes in the original in which we saw the finer nuances of great acting and body language. At the end you won't feel for Sakthivel (Ajith's character) the same way Sethumadhavan made your heart heavy.
Not sure if tamil audience will like it. I could see them thorougly enjoying the comedy scenes but growing restless when emotionally intense scenes showed up.They were literally making fun of all emotional dialogues.
Verdict: A good attempt and a decent one from Ajith, but thala ethra valiya thala aayalum annane pole varuma.
