"The most interesting part comes when one realizes the actual production cost of these movies were below 2.5 crore !!!!! The industry gives all credit to Mammootty as the cost of production of other stars like Mohanlal,Suresh gopi,Dileep,Jayaram and even Mani amazingly is well above 2.5 crores.
Asked about this secret formula, the megastar revealed " Its simple, Appachan (swargachitra) and lal (lal creations) and myself have way back decided that my movies including production cost,print and publicity must never go beyond the stipulated 2.5 crore mark and we have been pretty much success maintaining that figure.This ensures my movies get back its production costs from the main centres and wonderfully my last 6 movies made it with in the first 2 weeks of its release !!! So, you can very well see, there is no question of my movies becoming a disaster in the box office.
Appachan says " I would say Mammootty is the only person in the industry who is aware of the nook and corner of the film-making than anyother contemporary actor. He is determined to pack-up the movie cost below 2.5 crore and knows the way to cover-up the production cost from the main centres. If we had 5 such "thinking-actors" in the industry,we would have reached great heights way back."
