A NEWS 4 KANNUKANATHILLATHE VEDY ADICKUNNA HAKINU
The five films released this Vishu are all set to becoming good earners, as every films are making their distribution departments happy. The biggest collections, as for now is registered by Chotta Mumbai, the Mohanlal starrer, which has made a share of 2.24 crore in a matter of 21 days.
The film which was completed in a budget of 3.10 crores will have to find another 1.6 crore as share, to break even. But as the film is steady in collections in at least 24 major centers and is registering fifty percent in the remaining centers, the film will bring in profits before it reaches a fifty day mark. And for a Lal film, who made a fantastic opening that is sure to happen.
Vinodayathra is the winner of this Vishu in all terms, as the film has already grossed 1.8 crore from its three weeks run. The film which was completed in a moderate budget just above 2.3 crore will make the distributors happy from next week itself. His film has long queue of families in all major centers and reservations for the next few days for the upper class are already completed.
The film is expected to make a profit of 1.2 crore from its fifty day run. The producer M M Hamsa, under the banner of Kalasangham, who has always been associated with big hits like Parakkum Thalika and Meesa Maadhavan, has again recreated his magic of being with safe earners.

- Vishu report
chottamumbai blockBuster -
Vishu 2007 saw the release of five movies in genres ranging from Rajnikanth to Childrens Movies. Both the superstars, minor stars, wannabe stars and special effects dominated the screen this time. This Vishu the war was made up of battles in two stages with the first one between Chotta Mumbai and Vinodayatra and the second one between Big-B, Athisayan and Panthaya Kozhi.
One of the fears this Vishu season was the release of Rajnikanths Shivaji, but thankfully the release of that movie was postponed. Instead we got Chotta Mumbai which proved that if we get to see a superstar for two and half hours, the story does not matter. Anwar Rasheed is big on treatment and his treatment attracted lot of viewers who came rushing in to see Mohanlal as Vasco da Gama. Bhavana, who could not see Manjil Virinja Pookal when it was released, because she was not born, had her dream come true when played his heroine, Parakkum Latha. According to some reports, the movie has lost steam because some viewers wanted something called a story, it seems.
Sathyan Anthikkads template script starring Dileep and Mukesh in Vinodayatra has attracted the family audience. It is all about Chemistry, the Chemistry between Dileep and Mukesh, between Dileep and Meera Jasmine and between Sathyan and his viewers. Sathyan and the viewers have a pact. He wont surprise you with unexpected twists in the story and in turn we give our money to him. This has worked well in the past and it seems to work even now for families are flocking to theatres and donating money and this the only movie which has not seen a dip in the collections.
Big-B (not Abhisheks Daddy) was yet another revenge flick, starring Mammootty as the son of Nafisa Ali who is around the same age as him. The movie made by a team of youngsters whose age adds up to Mammottys age stood apart for the technical brilliance, tight and moody script which was previously seen only in Hindi and Tamil movies. The overdose of violence seems to have upset some reviewers and the movie after the good initial seems to have dropped badly.
To the eternal question, How many times can Malayalees make fools of themselves in front of a Gounder?, producer Lal said, One more time and decided to produce Panthaya Kozhi. Though he himself has acted in movies like Thommanum Makkalum, he decided to make yet another movie to teach the superstars a lesson, both of whom refused to act in his movie. The Superstars are having the last laugh as the movie did not shake the earth nor did it anoint Naren as the action hero.
Vinayan saw Ang Lees Hulk and thought, why not remake it with some bad graphics. The end product is Athisayan. Vinayan has consistently given the viewers new but damaged products. Trashed by reviewers for lack of story, half heated direction and tacky graphics this movie suffered at box office. As the advertisement blitz on superstar movies abates, families with children might venture out to see this movie.
To say that 4 out of 5 movies have nothing new or innovative to offer to the viewers is quite appalling. Looks like the reasoning behind releasing the movies during festival season is still the same, prey on unsuspecting viewer, who is out to enjoy a holiday and blow some cash. The process has become easier with movies being released in 50+ centers and viewers are ambushed simultaneously all over the state. Before the viewer realizes that fun trip was not theirs but the producers, the movie has recovered most of its cost.
Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?

Top five films of Vishu
IndiaGlitz [Saturday, April 21, 2007]
Finally, the initial results of the big fight for Vishu, is with us. As expected the superstar’s films and the family dramas are ruling the roost, while some films which gave big expectations couldn’t reach up to what they promised.
In the end of every filmi season, we often see family dramas which make long runs are the ones which becomes the biggest grosser. The biggest victory of this season is also a family film, where Sathyan Anthikkad has once again succeeded in reaping benefits from his magical narratives.
1. Vinodhayathra: The film which started of slowly, became the rage among families within a couple of days. The Meera Jasmine -Dileep chemistry and Mukesh -Dileep sequences, together with the subtle humor by Sathyan has made the film the favorite among the family audiences. The film which is registering 90 percent collections in almost all the centres is expected too make a 100 days run.
2. Big B: The first week of Big B saw great initials and the viewers are giving high rating for the film for its technical and narrative brilliance. As the film was completed in a budget of 2.7 crores, a modest one when compared with other superstar movies, the film is expected to cash in the returns within a house full run of four weeks.
Released in 50 centres, the film has managed to collect a share of 1.05 crores in the first six days. Running with 80 percent audience in all centres, every one are in the look out whether the collections will sustain in the coming days. As the family input into the movie is highly debatable, the film may face a drop in further weeks. But if it caters successfully to a family audience, then the film will register one of the biggest successes for Mammootty.
3. Chotta Mumbai: The film has one of the biggest initials for a Lal film in recent times. But when the other films came up with Vishu, a collection drop was seen. But now the film is going steady with a 75 percent in almost every centres. Bad mouth publicity has definitely affected the audience inputs. But the film is all set to reach hundred days, as it has become a prestige affair for the fans and the associated film buffs.
================================================== =
Kochi, May 2 (IANS) With all Vishu releases still going good, the surprise winner is director Sathyan Anthikad's "Vinodayathra".
The top five Malayalam films are:
1. "Vinodayathra" - Dileep appears as the protagonist in a Sathyan Anthikad film for the first time and the team clicks. The film has Meera Jasmine as the female lead. The right balance of humour and sentiment has worked well for the veteran director.
2. "Big B" - Amal Neerad, the young cameraman-turned-director, who has worked with the likes of Ram Gopal Varma, has succeeded in making a slick action thriller with Mammootty in the main lead.
3. "Chotta Mumbai" - Director Anwar Rasheed's second outing after "Rajamanickam" is an unpretentious entertainer with Mohanlal in the lead. Scriptwriter Benny P. Nayarambalam deserves equal credit for the success of the film.

Big B - 3/5 - Action Thriller - Banking heavily on the visuals, camera work and angles, ‘Big B’ is a visual treat. That it remains just a cameraman’s film is its biggest drawback. The latter half of the movie couldn’t sustain the tempo of the first half, which was very good. Like most action films in Malayalam, climax of the film plays the spoil sport again.
Athisayan - 2.5/5 - Children's film - ‘Athisayan’ is a film for children. But the film is not good enough, even by kid’s standard, to lure them out of their favorite cartoon channels. Only thing that might slightly attract the grownups is the presence of animation, which is decently done.
Panthayakozhi - 2/5 - Mass masala - ‘Panthayakozhi’ is nothing but an attempt to emulate masala blockbusters from Tamil. Narein disappoints, but even more disappointing is the screenplay and direction. Action during the climax is the only good aspect of the movie. Producer Lal seems to have completely lost his midas touch of selecting the script.
Vinodayatra - Family - 3.5/5 - Until first half, ‘Vinodayatra’ tells a light-hearted and enjoyable story, but after that the film slowly slips to the usual clichés. Dileep and all other actors did their best but Sathyan Anthikad did a lousy job with the second half; too predictable for everyone’s liking. But still, the goodwill he has acquired over the years will ensure a decent run at the box-office.
Chotta mumbai - Entertainer - 3.7/5 - Chota Mumbai’ is a throughout entertainer, packed with lot of humour, action and everything else that this festival mood demands. Mohanlal with his immaculate comic-timing, complemented by some spontaneous actors, together with a comical screenplay and fast paced direction, is sure to crack you up this holiday season.
