3rd Amrita Film Awards
to be presented on May 5 at Trivandrum.
"Classmates" is Best Film, Mohanlal - Best Actor, and Navya Nair - Best Actress. Lifetime Achievement Award for K.S.Sethumadhavan, Udit Narayan, Simran to perform.
To coincide with its second Anniversary ,Amrita TV has announced the 3rd Amrita Film Awards in 21 categories which will be presented at a gala program on May 5 (6 pm) at Chandrasekharan Stadium, Trivandrum.
Mohanlal got the Best Actor Award for "Keerthi Chakra" & "Vadakkumnathan";
while Navya Nair won the Best Actress Award for "Saira".
Roshan Andrews bagged the Award for Best Director for "Note Book" and Jagathy Sreekumar won the Best Supporting Actor Award for "Vaasthavam"/"Palungu".
The Best Male and Female Singer Awards went to M.G.Sreekumar("Mukile Mukile") and Sujatha ("Ozhukukayay") respectively.
A highlight of the Awards is the Lifetime Achievement Award to eminent film maker K.S.Sethumadhavan.
The hit film"Classmates" bagged six Awards which included Best Feature Film,Best Supporting Actress(Radhika), Best Screenplay (James Albert), Best Music Director (Alex Paul), Best Editor (Renjan Abraham) and Best Costume Designer (S.B.Satheesh) .
The film "Karutha Pakhikal " won top honours for Best Cinematographer (P.Sukumar),Best Costume Designer(S.B.Satheesh),Best Makeup Man(Mani) and Best Child Artist (Malavika).
Girish Puthenchery got the Best Lyricist Award for "Vadakkumnathan"/"Rasathantharam" and Gokul Das , Best Art Director Award for "Tantra"/"Keerthi Chakra".
Roma got the Best New Talent Award for "Note Book" while the Best Child Artist Award went to Malavika for "Karutha Pakshikal" .
For the first time the channel has instituted the Best Other Language Film Award which has gone to to the Tamil film "Veyil".
A Special Achievement Award will be presented to the makers of "Saira" which has been selected for screening at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year. The Director, Dr Biju and Producer, B.N.Radhakrishnan will receive the Award.
Almost all the award winners have confirmed to be present at the function to accept the awards personally .
The music and dance embellished Awards programme will have performances of artistes from Malayalam ,Tamil and Hindi cinema including noted playback singer Udit Narayan,actress Simran, Priyamani , Kalamaster troupe from Chennai,M.G .Sreekumar,Sujatha Manjari,Vidhu Pratap and pianist Stephen.
To coincide with the event, Amrita TV has brought out a publication, " Celebrating Cinema:Amrita Film Awards --A Handbook " which carries Citations of all award winners with details of nominations in every category.
Seating at the Awards Nite is by special invitation .However gallery seating is free .An audience of over 30000 people is expected to witness the 3rd Amrita Film Awards extravaganza on a specially designed set at Chandrasekharan Stadium ,Trivandrum on May 5 .The 1st Amrita Film Awards coincided with the launch of Amrita TV in April 2005 at Trivandrum while the 2nd Amrita Film Awards was held at Kochi.
